Converting FoxPro 2 menus

The Menu Designers are very similar in the two versions of FoxPro:

[FoxPro 2 and Visual FoxPro Menu Designers]

Both Menu Designers store the description of the menu in a pair of dbf-format files with .mnx and .mnt extensions. Despite this similarity, the two are not compatible. If you open an earlier menu file in Visual FoxPro then a dialog will appear asking whether you want to convert the menu file to the new format.

Make sure that you have a backup of the original menu files before going any further.

VFP will update the file structures and overwrite the original files. The equivalent converter for reports will rename the original files before creating the new ones but for some reason the Menu Converter does not take this precaution.

Once you have converted the menu files you will be able to use them in a Visual FoxPro project and add the new VFP features such as icons.
