Running old versions of FoxPro

There are still a few places using the early versions of FoxPro. Typically they've got a special-purpose system that's running on an old PC because it's not compatible with the latest versions of Windows. We used to keep an old Windows 2000 PC around so that we could work on these early systems when they came along but we've now found an easier solution.

[Using an emulator to run FPW under Windows 7]

We're using Oracle's VirtualBox software to run Windows 2000 in a virtual machine. This software is free and has given us an easy way to maintain support for the older versions of FoxPro. It's also letting us run an old copy of Access 2000 for the days when we hit odd problems with the orignal format mdb databases under Access 2007.

VirtualBox can be downloaded from http:www.virtualbox.org
