Options in Access 2007

Access 2007 start button Although Access 2007 is over two years old now and Access 2010 is on the horizon, we are still getting a lot of queries from people asking where they can find the Options and Startup options.

These had been on the Tools menu for as long as anyone could remember but of course Access 2007 doesn't have a traditional menu structure. Instead it's got the new ribbon interface and you won't find any mention of Options or Startup anywhere in here. Not to worry, both these options are still available and you can find them by clicking the big Office button in the top left corner of the Access screen.

Access 2007 options button This brings up a window with a list of recently-used files and a column of options. This column looks very like the old File menu with familiar entries such as New, Open, Save and Options and Save As. This list though still doesn't have any mention of the entries we're looking for. To get to these you have to click the button labelled Access Options in the bottom right of the window. All members of Office 2007 have a similar arrangement and this is where you'll find the options you're looking for.

This button opens a dialogue which leads to everything that used to be on the Options and Startup menu.
